Can Fights Hard For Sunday Top Ten

Can Öncü took his Kawasaki Puccetti Racing Ninja ZX-6R to tenth place in WorldSSP Race Two at Autodrom Most, having started the final points-scoring contest of the first half of the 2024 season from 13th place on the grid

After a tough start to the season for proven race winners Can and his Kawasaki Puccetti Racing Team two points scoring races at Most were more than welcome.

In very hot ambient conditions of 33°C and with track temperatures over 50°C around the 4.212km long circuit, Race Two was attritional in and of itself. Can stood up to the challenge strongly, and moving up from his fifth row starting position on lap one to ninth on lap three.

Can would lose a couple of positions but then get back up to ninth, until he had to ultimately accept tenth and the points it delivered for a weekend hard work and committed riding.

Can’s top ten ride in Race Two added six points to his 2024 haul and he remains 14th overall, now with 38 points.

Can Öncü, stated: “It was a difficult race. I started well and the setup we found yesterday allowed me to maintain a consistently fast pace. I wasn’t able to make up many positions and score the kind of result I wanted, but I guess we couldn’t do much more starting from the fifth row. With respect to Donington the bike worked better and so I’m confident for the next round at Portimao. A big thanks to the team for all their great work here at Most.”

Swiss rider Marcel Brenner (Viamo Racing by MTM Kawasaki) ended the Most weekend with a 21st place. Gabriele Giannini (Prodina Kawasaki) ran onto the gravel runoff area at T1 and then went back to the pits to retire.

After the completion of the Czech WorldSSP weekend the seventh round of the 12 round championship will take place at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal, between 9-11 August.
