Jeremy Seewer sixth in Spanish Qualifying

Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP's Jeremy Seewer finished sixth in Qualifying for the Spanish round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship on the switchback track adjacent to the intu Xanadú commercial centre in the Arroyomolinos suburb of Madrid.

The Swiss rider and KRT teammate Romain Febvre both suffered badly in an untidy start as several rivals failed to hold their line out of the gate. Seewer emerged tenth from turn one but had already advanced to fifth at the completion of lap one while his French colleague, twenty-third at the first split after being held up again by a fallen rider in his path, was back into the top-ten halfway round the third lap. Seewer eventually took the chequered flag sixth after an intensive battle with multiple champion Herlings whilst Febvre, setting the fastest laps of the race other than those of the runaway leaders on a clear track, clinched eighth with two laps remaining.

Jeremy Seewer: "Sixth is not where I want to be but I think we would have had the pace if we had been up front from the start. I felt good on the bike and I think the track got quite technical - the best since we've been coming here - but the start made the difference today."

Romain Febvre: "In the timed practice session I had good lines in some sections but not in others so I was seventh to the gate for Qualifying. But timed practice is not racing! At the start of the Qualifying race Prado changed his line and it was like dominos, everyone had to change his line and came across me. I could take the inside at the first corner but then in a downhill another rider crashed in front of me and I had nowhere to go. I had to wait and was nearly last; I recovered many positions and my lap times were as good as the leaders when I had a clear track so I am still confident for tomorrow."

Bike It Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team's Jack Chambers made a superb start in the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship Qualifying race to round turn one in the top-four but the American had not felt comfortable all day on the rutted track and eventually dropped back to thirteenth, while teammate Bobby Bruce exited fifteenth mid-moto.

Bud Racing Kawasaki's Mathis Valin made an impressive start to his FIM European EMX250 Championship career with a hard-charging race from sixth to third, less than four seconds behind the winner, in the first moto of the series. Chilean teammate Benjamin Garib narrowly missed the points in twenty-second after being dragged down in a multiple-rider pile-up on the opening lap, and Bike It Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team teenage rookie Billy Askew pushed his way forward to nineteenth at the finish.

Mathis Valin: "It's only my second race this season - and my first European 250 - so I'm pretty happy with third; it's a good result to start the series. I had a good feeling on-track all-day-long and I had a good start but it took me some time to pass Reisulis. The track changed a lot throughout the day but that was not a problem as I feel comfortable on the bike; we had a good winter and we saw today that all the hard work is paying off."
